Dear World
Spring is here representing another Cycle in our seasons.
For some, this is about leaving Winter and moving into a fresh new Cycle where the air feels clean and clear.
What is it about Spring that makes us want to freshen up our home or make Changes?
Spring is here and the shops have tulips and daffodils in abundance.
The Supermarkets display at the entrance all things related to cleaning at this time of year.
WHY is there such an emphasis to the point where these 2 words are used like an instruction to get moving?
Most of us have heard of the words Spring Cleaning.
It is related to giving our home a DEEP clean and that means doing tasks that are not on the everyday or weekly Routine.
Cambridge Dictionary
The act of cleaning all of a place, especially your house, very well, including parts you do not often clean. (1)
Back in the good old fashion days this was the norm and there were no distractions that would stop us from ensuring our home got the Focus with attention to detail in the big jobs that needed Action when it came to cleaning.
Today, there are far too many “better” things to do like
Catching up on box TV sets
Going on Social Media
Playing Computer Games
Surfing the Internet
Having a lazy Weekend
Booking another Holiday
Visiting a fun attraction
Fantasising
Daydreaming
Escaping with mates
Leading a Double Life
Online Dating
Online Shopping
Recreational Drugs
Alcohol Parties
Gambling
There are plenty more we could add to the list but you get the point.
The BIG question is WHERE do we start?
The thought of doing a search Online or picking up a book or even watching a video clip may not do the job.
If we are generally not in the movement of planning, preparing or cleaning is simply not on our radar as a constant, then forget it.
Chances are there is not going to be a Spring Clean this year or at any time. That is simply a Reality and a fact.
Cleaning Services are now big business but for many it is seen as a menial task and hence why it is generally a low paid job.
We get the cleaner in and pay extra if we want the so–called deep clean referred to as Spring Cleaning.
Is that the answer?
Yes it is if we live a very busy work life and there is not any time or space to Focus on any cleaning.
But what if having some form of cleaning Routine in our daily life could actually support us to be more steady?
What if we read the TIDY UP article on this website and made that a starting point in our daily winding down Routine?
What if we do the washing up whether that is manual or dishwasher every day and not leave things hanging around?
What if we read the article on Pots and Pans and received the value and benefits of this Simple1 task?
What if we make it an absolute to Clean our Toilet regularly so it never makes it to the Spring Cleaning list?
What if we have yet to be aware that taking care of our home with the cleaning gives us a settlement inside our body?
What if we have yet to realise that whilst doing the Boring cleaning jobs, we may receive answers to our so–called stresses in life?
AND WHAT IF…
Those writing and presenting actually LIVE what they share, so it is more likely to be inspiring and not just another article out there?
On that note, the author of this article and this website enjoys and absolutely loves ALL things related to cleaning and the detail.
Everything shared comes from LIVED experience so it holds what we could call a potency – a power that has substance. This means it is a Foundation that comes from their living way that is unshakeable.
Let’s start…this is a Project and you are the lead.
Recruit friends, family members or neighbours and if it is a solo job that’s ok too. Simply no Excuses.
PLANNING
There has to be a Plan and the key is to KEEP IT SIMPLE
Nothing works if we bring in any form of Complications
Start with the space as you enter your home and write down jobs that require a deep clean.
For example
Front door
Entrance area
Shoe rack
Skirting boards
Light fittings
Cupboard
Then go into the first room and move around into the next room or space. If there are other floors, do them after and stay focused.
No need to get Overwhelmed before even starting.
Just listing everything that requires attention is a great start.
Taking small steps and being Consistent will make it easier.
There cannot be any stupid Excuses or wavering as it will not get completed.
What will support beyond any doubt is making sure EARLY NIGHTS are locked in as that will give the body the energy needed to get going, stick to it and Finish the Job.
There are Cycles to be Closed and it could be things like getting the charity goodwill bags delivered, dropping items off to the dry cleaning and returning items to the post office. These tasks are in the way of Spring Cleaning so bring Completion.
Holding On, Just Incase or any other nonsense will do nothing other than bring in Delay.
Now that stage is done, go shopping to purchase cleaning products to do the job. Stay in budget and no need for silly smelly things as there is some sale or promotion going on.
Stick to Basic cleaning products and make sure you have buckets and cloths stocked up.
What we don’t realise are areas that do not get a look most of the time, like tops of fridges and behind the washing machine, we may find our cloths get dirty fast.
Spring Cleaning does require us to move furniture where possible so the area gets a vacuum clean at the very least.
Planning the detail is important too.
For example, the heavy curtains are ready for cleaning then this has to be planned. When are they going to the Dry Cleaners or Launderette?
It is not possible to use the regular household washing machine for big items. This is common sense 101.
If you have a steam cleaner this has to be planned for upholstery.
Windows need to be opened and they too will need a deep clean.
There literally is plenty to get on with once we start the Commitment to Spring Cleaning.
The main thing to remember is do not have any expectations or put any emphasis or effort into the home being a certain way.
Just start, GET ON WITH IT and continue without needing anything.
No need to post on Social Media, phone a friend or tell your mother how great you are because you have started a Spring Cleaning project.
Make it a way of living so that it is NO BIG DEAL.
Top Tip
Once the lists are done make sure they have order and are in categories.
Go to the Simple1 area, a room or space that is not going to take long.
Start there and then move to the NEXT most Simple2 space to do a Spring Clean.
This is not a test or a marathon and God is not watching you so breathe, GET REAL and remember small steps Consistently is the answer.
PREPARING
The key is to ensure this is not a “one–off” until next year.
That would be stupid so let’s not go there.
The way to do this is make sure there is no effort and that means nothing is to be intensive or hard work.
You can clean paying attention to the detail
How you hold the cloth
How you move the cloth
How you put the tap on
Using Hot hot water
Washing up gloves
Disposable gloves
Dry wipe first
Buckets – Cleaning after
Different Cleaning Products
Buy what you need – nothing more and nothing less
Vacuum is very important
Move small items on the floor before vacuum
Get help to move large furniture if needed
Window Cleaning
Oven Cleaning
Kitchen Cooker Hob
Fridge Deep Clean
Freezer Deep Clean
Bathroom Descaling
All Plugholes
Inside Cupboard
Front Door
Back Door
Carpet Cleaning
Get the Professionals in and if budget means that is not possible, then a Reality Check. Hire the machine or buy online a steam cleaner for carpets and floors. They do the job and note it will require storage space until the next deep clean.
Professional Oven Cleaning is generally worth having done as they have the exact products and clean to a Standard most of us would simply not be able to.
Window Cleaning is not to be attempted on the outside windows if it is not Simple1 or easy to access.
Pay for the service as they have the ladders, the equipment needed and the skills to do the task with absolute ease and it saves time.
End of the Day
When we stop cleaning, there must be a Commitment to closing the Cycle.
Tidy up and put all cleaning products in one area for next round.
All buckets must be washed and dried ready to use again.
Wash the cloths used or if disposable, place them in the Trash.
It does not matter if the next cleaning is in a few days or at the Weekend. Just ensure that everything that was used has been taken care of.
There is enough to get started and for deeper inspiration see every hyperlink to the actual article on this website.
Read it and then re–read this and Spring Cleaning will not be just for one season a year but Another Way of Living where we lock into our Foundation what we have done and it now becomes our normal.
Our world is lacking when it comes to upholding Standards.
Spring Cleaning deserves the bar to be raised and when we value and appreciate this important task, we are more likely to clean more regularly until it becomes a way of living that we do not actually need to think about it.
Above all, we will most certainly feel the difference when our home has a deep clean.
