Nurture

Dear World

Following on from the previous article on Health and Well Being, it makes sense to start with a very Basic topic that is often Ignored or mis–interpreted.

What is the dictionary telling us about this word Nurture?
What is the origin of this word Nurture?

Cambridge Dictionary

  • to take care of, feed and protect someone or something
especially young children or plants and help to develop
  • to help a plan or a person to develop and be successful (1)

Merriam Webster Dictionary

  • to supply with Nourishment
  • EDUCATE
  • to further the development of: FOSTER (2)

Origin
14th Century

  • Nurture was first adopted from Anglo–French into English
    to training or upbringing
  • to the care and attention given to someone or something growing or developing

15th Century

Verb Nurture settled into the language
first with meanings to do with feeding and caring for young

The figurative use of Nurture meaning “to further the development of” followed centuries later (2)

What is clear from the definitions we received is that it is to take care and most of us would relate the word Nurture to taking care.

We tend to use the word Nurture when we talk about plants and how we take care of them and how we water and feed the soil to support them to grow and be strong and healthy.

Supply with Nourishment is another definition of Nurture and this we link with What We Eat.

This article is presenting a form of Education coming from the author’s lived experience to ‘further develop and foster’ our Body so that it can work as it was designed to for us with maximum vitality levels that remain Consistent.

What we seem to conveniently forget is that if we trashed the plants we were given the job to Nurture, then the results are inevitable.
If we apply the same to our human frame then why do we skip, miss or Ignore the point about Nurturing?

The origin of the word tells us about the care and attention we give to grow and develop.

The following presentation is offering Another Way1 to pay attention and take care, so that we can develop with ease and not any effort, how to take the steps every day and make it our normal Standard.

Let’s start with the WHAT is NOT and that means the NO NO NO.

The Absolute NO List below is to cut any nonsense or illusion that ANY are associated with true Nurturing.

Having Daily Distraction
Spending Time Gossiping
Judging Others
Drinking Alcohol
Eating Gluten
Having Dairy for Comfort Eating
Using any form of Tobacco
Using Nicotine Pouches
Smoking Pot
Vaping

Watching Porn
Watching TV

Gambling
Online Shopping
Leading a Double Life
Having Vices and Secrets
Creating Unnecessary DEBT
Wasting Food

The list above are links to go to and read MORE on each topic so that you can knock this stuff out and ditch it as it sure does not Nurture you in anyway.

There will be more you could add that applies to your life.

We can write as many To Do Lists and book a Weekend Break or spend our Day Off Complaining but none will Change the fact that there is simply no form of Nurturing until we take proper Action.

We could start by saying we were never raised with Nurturing as a primary Focus.

We could simply lack the direction of where to start as we do not really know what it is to truly Nurture our Body.

What if we start with a task that has been given to us to take deep care of our Body and that means we are to NURTURE it so we get the benefits not just immediately but for the long–term?

This means we are to invest and continue investing in this as we will be assured that our Body is going to have the optimum care and that means we will have vitality.

It is now super clear and we do not need another research study to tell us that we are not doing great with our Sleep1
We simply do not have Sleep2 Quality and it seems we have lost our way.

A MULTI–BILLION DOLLAR Sleeping Aids industry is not cutting it and we are getting desperate.

Studies are now linking lack of Sleep1 or not enough Sleep2 to symptoms of Disease, but we still are a long way from getting to the root cause of how and why we are at this point in our life.

Giving toddlers and young children a device is not true Parenting.
Allowing copious amounts of sugar fuelled snacks and drinks for Children and Teenagers is Not Nurturing them.

Feeling Tired but pushing through is Not Nurturing.
FeelingExhaustedand running on empty is draining our Body.

Feeling Overwhelmed about the small stuff is a serious Sign.

What if Ignoring our Body and not stopping to Nurture every single day is adding to the Fatigue we simply cannot shake off?

We have tried sleeping longer hours but it is not shifting the Tension we wake up with.

What if we have never heard of the 9 o’clock Hoover that sounds like a children’s book but actually applies to ALL of us?
Well worth reading.

What if we could nod to all of the following:

Shouting
Swearing
Crazy Days
Overdoing It
Rushing
Fast Living
Wayward Living
Champagne Lifestyle

Waking Up with a feeling of Anxiety and that means we are not settled inside, is a Sign there is a dis–ease with our Body.

We reach for something to wake us up and keep us moving.
Breakfast TV, Coffee or Sugary cereal OR we are supposedly eating healthy but it does not last as come 3pm the lethargy kicks in and we crave sugar or snacks or another Vape, Cigarette or Coffee.

Back to Work, Weekend passed and we just did nothing in the name of Nurturing.

Bare Minimum Mondays is Trending and that means do very little and Get Away With It.

We clock watch during Work time as we just want to get to bed and say we will have an Early Night but it never happens.

The following seem to grab our attention and we align to them as it rewards us. YES it does. That is WHY we do it.

Social Media scrolling
What’s Trending with our influencers
FOMO
Messing About
Order some Junk Food and
Forget the Chaos at Home

OR we call a friend or overwork as it helps us to avoid the very thing we need to put our Focus and attention on – NURTURE.

We have our Self-Medication that we call Nurture.
Order a takeaway, go
Online and treat ourself to something new, ask if our mum can do the ironing, go to the hairdresser as we can’t be bothered to wash our hair, indulge in box set TV bingeing, find the latest app that will make our Home clean and the list goes on…

We want the Perfect Life but the goal post keeps moving.

We have never joined the dots that our actual daytime movements – our behaviours – our reactions and responses affect our NIGHT Sleep time.

THIS IS SERIOUS

We read in the News that celebrities openly say they don’t ever want to cook as “it’s the worst thing in the world”.

WHAT kind of message is that for those of us that do not have a celeb lifestyle and even if we did, where is the Nurturing?

How many of us are in a Relationship where we do zero cooking because we feel this is not our job because we work?

How many know of people who have never ever cooked a meal in their entire adult life?

Can we really have someone cook and do everything for us and is this going to Change our internal state of being for the long–term?
This is worth pondering on as we often negate something or dismiss it yet this actually is super important – that we begin and learn how to deeply take care of our Body and it starts with Nurturing.

What if Nurturing brings a deeper connection to our Body and this means we give it some much needed time and space to respond.

What if we got into the regular mode of Nurturing our Body where we can sense changes internally?

A great example is Cold Hands and Cold Feet.

As the author of this article and website, I can talk from my own life experience that having Cold Hands and Cold Feet was something that I just lived with for over 40 years.

No amount of multiple socks and gloves worked.
In fact nothing worked BECAUSE of my
Lifestyle.

Changes came with small steps to Build my Foundation.
Drinking Hot Water daily first thing no matter what the weather outside.
Layering with several undergarments.
Yes I was laughed at by friends as I wore tights in summer.
They wear active wear every day and that’s the Trend now.

Even now I wear layers at home and the heating is ON.
Double Socks is my normal or tights and Socks.

Wearing a vest top with arms on display is an absolute no, as even a breeze in the air, I instantly feel the cold on my Body.

However, if the temperature is super hot, I will carry a cardigan or shawl with me incase it is needed for later in the day when the temperature will get cooler. These are just my 101 Basic movements.

I worked it out by allowing my Body to Connect with me and speak.
By Listening I found myself feeling alive from the inside out and not having this constant numb Tension and hardness that was my usual because I reacted so much to having Cold Hands and Cold Feet.

AND having a duvet even when the forecasts say it is hot.
Electric blanket in bed was not for me but with this constant new way of Nurturing I am warm all the time, even if it is snowing outside.

Wearing Ear Muffs that cover my ears knocked out all the stupid thoughts that I look odd and I continue to wear them now even when I see others on a Cold day in shorts and flip flops.

Never ever do I leave my home without a pair of gloves.
During the warmer months I wear soft man-made fibres and there have been countless
Conversations on the buses and trains with others about Cold Hands and Cold Feet.

I never take a flight without packing in my hand luggage a soft blanket, fluffy Socks, slippers, cashmere scarf and of course gloves.

When I come across people and they say “WOW your Hands are so warm” I tell them straight that this can be sorted and we don’t need to be getting Raynaud’s.

First tip is always, start with drinking Hot Water – at least 3 cups in the morning.

Soups need to become a regular regardless of what the world is telling us to eat or not eat.

Eating Soups is probably one of my favourite meals as my Body immediately ignites and I can feel the fire going through me like a furnace warming all areas.

Eating a hot meal is communicating to my Body that it is being nurtured and that means taken care of.

Cooking a slow slow roast in the oven not only warms up the kitchen and my home but it leaves a lasting warmth when I eat, as it is a mega big dose of Nurturing.

Not eating salads or cold type foods in the winter months when it is Cold where I live works very well.
Never can I sit down for a meal without something warm.
This is my normal and it works so it is locked into my Foundation.

Peppermint Tea is something I like now after my dinner.
Not for everyone and that is ok, but for me it feels like the body drinks it up and the cells are thanking me as the after effects are a more settled body with vitality and no moaning or groaning about
Cold Hands or Feet.

What I came to realise is that Alcohol was numbing my senses and that meant I was dis–connected from my Body and what it was calling for.

I stopped drinking Alcohol over 20 years ago and never ever have the desire to ingest it again.

I also realised I never did like the Coffee taste but wanted the milky hot drink. It always left me bloated and feeling empty inside but at the same time racy from the Caffeine. There was never a settlement.

I feel my relationship with my Body now and how I can support it has become the primary Focus in everyday life.

Going to bed Early and having some Quality Sleep1 is an absolute must but the odd day when it is not possible, then I make sure super Early nights after.

I even put myself on a program for one week of going to bed Early and that means lights off by 8:30pm and I felt the big thank you from my Body that was working long hours and did not have enough rest time.

Wearing washing up gloves since I was a teenager has been very important to me as I  was always sensitive to the hot and cold water temperatures and the washing up liquid. I always have a stock and there are different types used for different jobs.

The Bathroom gloves for cleaning are longer on the cuff and I have a soft sensitive feel inside pair for handwashing garments. After each use, I wash my gloves like I am washing my hands and then dry them. They last a very long time because of the deep care taken.

Hand Cream is an absolute must as it supports me to connect and I make sure this includes my wrists.
The deep care has paid off as my hands feel and look amazing for a woman in her mid–60s.
It is so important to me that we take care of our hands and feet that I wrote the following articles simply to share what I live.

Hand Care
Nail Care

Feet Care
Feet and Footwear
Socks

Adding to this, Another Way2 I deeply Nurture myself is to have a Nap during the daytime if I am working from home.

As I rise in the early hours and start working before most of the working world, there comes a point where the body wants a break.
Heating on, eye pillow on to rest my eyes with 2 soft blankets.
Half an hour or less on boom boom days and sometimes it can be longer if the body needs a deeper rest.

I do not set the Alarm as I never seem to oversleep or miss the Wake Up time if I have a meeting or need to leave the house.
However, as I live very Real and Practical I set the Alarm on days where there is a flight or something equally important where time matters.

This may seem like something we would never associate with the word Nurture but for me it sure is.

Pots and Pans
This really is a super Important task.
To know these amazing cookware in my kitchen are going to support to take care of me and my
Body.

To the point where I had to write more about the How and Why of Pots and Pans in our kitchen.

The same goes with Food Shopping.
The way we approach the food and place it in our basket or trolley is IMPORTANT.

Not throw it in or pay little or no attention to what we are actually buying. Not seeing it as a mere function or being dis–connected.
Feeling what to buy that would support us in the coming days, taking into account our
Work schedule and time we have to cook meals.

Everything is Everything so why not pay attention is what I say when I am shopping for food.

Having regular visits to the Dentist, Dental Hygienist, Opticians and Hairdresser are an Absolute and not negotiable.

I now realise that all the above is
WHAT IT MEANS TO NURTURE

Dear World,

How we Live Really and Truly matters.
To have a simple Daily Routine that we just do without having to think about it will one day be the actual substance that holds us.

In other words, things happen as they do every single day and how we respond or react comes from how settled we feel inside our body.
These tasks in daily life that we just do and become masters of because they are lived day in and day out are what holds us.

Let the world do what it does but we have the absolute knowing we are doing our bit by being steady BECAUSE of those ‘take for granted’ things we do, which is just our normal.

Making Our Bed
Laundry
Shaving
Washing our Face
Brushing our Teeth
Cleaning our Shoes
Cleaning our Glasses
and the list goes on…

When we get this going Daily no matter what is going on, just like they did back in the good old fashion days, then we become steady and solid.

What most of us have yet to realise is we simply DO NOT take these Basic 101 everyday tasks seriously.

As we bring closure to this mini presentation on the word NURTURE, we can dismiss it, Ignore or simply press x and move on OR
we can take note that there could be something here, if applied that could possibly bring about some much needed Real Changes.

True Actions speak volumes and knock out the Empty Words.

Our World really is not doing great and we as individuals on the planet are getting sicker and the Quality of Life is simply not there.

What if we went back to Simple everyday ways that would Nurture our Body and let the Body respond so it becomes our marker of what is working and what is not.

Why wait for an Emergency visit to the Doctor or Hospital if we hold the Power to start by making small Consistent Changes that we now know, thanks to this article, of what it IS to Nurture.
We can DELAY or we can simply GET ON WITH IT.
